Peer Support Services
A Certified Peer Support Specialist(CPS) is someone who helps youth, young adults, and adults with a mental health diagnosis to become more independent, to develop self-care, skills (such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, housekeeping, and interview skills), to develop their support networks, and to effectively use community resources (housing, crisis support, employment, and education). 
A CPS is someone who has experienced mental health problems and has learned ways to cope so that they can now help others who are still struggling. 


CPS services are mainly provided in the client home and in the community setting.

Peer Support services have been shown to: 
  • Reduce symptoms / hospitalizations
  • Increase social support and participation in the community
  • Improve well-being, self esteem, and social functioning
  • Encourage more thorough and longer-lasting recoveries

Youth and Young Adult Peer Support Services 

Available to individuals who wish to participate and met the following criteria:
  • 14-26 years of age
  • Presence or history of mental health issues that results in a functional impairment
  • Has a written recommendation for peer support services
Adult Peer Support Services 

Available to individuals who wish to participate and meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Presence or history of mental health issues that results in a functional imapriment
  • Has a written recommendation for peer support services
