Children must have Medical Assistance to be eligible for BHR & Family Based Services. Please note: medical assistance eligibility is not necessarily determinant upon income. If a child has a mental health and/or physical health diagnosis they may qualify under the Loophole program. Please contact your local DPW office for additional information or to apply (Clarion office: 814.226.1700).
BHR & Family Based services must be prescribed as medically necessary by a Psychologist or Psychiatrist in a best practice evaluation.
Medical assistance covers initial psychological evaluations and for BHR services, recurrent evaluations approximately every 26-36 weeks. Psychological evaluations through Shamrock Solutions can be scheduled through Tammy Burns, BHRS Program Director 814.223.8696x13. It is often helpful to have a description of behaviors of concern and any school reports such as reprimand records, Behavior plans, or IEPs, if applicable. Once services are deemed necessary by a Psychologist/Psychiatrist they must then be approved by Community Care Behavioral Health--a managed care company that oversees both BHR & Family Based services.
For BHRS, an ISPT (team) meeting must occur and a CCBH representative typically participates either in person or by phone. All materials are then sent to Community Care for final approval. You will receive a letter in the mail informing you of CCBH's decision. If services are approved, you will then be contacted by the therapist assigned to your child's case.
For FBMHS, a pre certification is sent to Community Care Behavioral Health and a response is given within 2 business days. You will then be contacted by MollyJill Smrekar, Family Based Program Director, to set up services. For additional questions regarding Family Based Mental Health Services through Shamrock, please contact MollyJill at 814.223.8696 x17.
